Sony’s Master Series of TVs launched in 2018 with the A9F and Z9F. Now, the company has updated the lineup with new flagships including the OLED Bravia A9G. It’s got the Google Assistant and a quicker Android Oreo interface… but can it compete with cheaper offerings like LG's C9?

It is the best OLED on the market it makes LG C9 look like a game console compared to a PC.

I had the 77" version of this. The glass is very fragile and cracks very easily and after having it for a year mine was struck with a dog toy and the tv was ruined. As to the sound it is okay but not at all amazing. I prefer the sound of my good quality speakers hooked up to my tv. I didn't find very many blu rays that looked great on it and the tv broadcasts were always subpar. The picture on my 43" 4k tv is better.

So i am torn, love my 12 yeat old plasma tv. But been thinking of taking the plunge and buy this or the LG. And i just dont know which to get.
Cos my plasma still looks good.

Its ridiculous that there's so much latency on new Android TV's. When I owned an X900C a few years ago it was amazingly snappy (but the panel was too thin and bent when people try to set it up) and now I have an X900F and I have to run it with all the apps in their factory mode and built in YouTube has issues with the image not displaying and leaving huge boxes but the current version has issues with cast and still the image issue so I just leave it as is. Pretty embarrassing for a Bravia.

Forgot to mention that although Sony sources their OLED panels from LG, they only use A class panels. So no dead pixels, lines, etc. Similarly, from my experience, owning both an LG OLED and SONY OLED, SONY's QC is much better. I got rid of the LG OLED for different issues and I still have that SONY OLED. Looking to get the 65" version of this tv once it's around $2.5k. I've found it at the time of this posting for around $3k. With Black Friday coming up, if this set goes up for my price range, you bet I'll be getting one.

You should have talked more about the X1 Ultimate processor. This tv doesn't just have the same quality as an LG with better sound, there are clear advances in color accuracy, upscaling and super bit mapping. This technology analyzes individual elements on the screen, compares them to a database and retrieves detail, while adding dynamic contrast that serves the same function as higher quality video content. All of that means that the content you will be watching the most, like sports, youtube videos and content that isn't Dolby Vision will look far superior than on a tv without such an advanced processor.

Yes, its a premium product and a premium price, but it's aimed at those that want the best image quality in an all-in-one package. There are certainly buyers out there who will value that more than a cheaper alternative from LG.

No no no no.... Sony tv is far superior than LG even though it's the same panel because of sony's processing power. Don't buy any other brand Sony is the number 1 for TV colour and perfection

I have an older version, the KJ-55A1 that has the same vibrating screen speakers, and I'm still very happy with it! This one tho, is very cool. I use a dolby atmos sony overkill sound bar tho :p

Due to favorable reviews I’ve bought an A9G and I’m disappointed. The picture is nervous and seems to be only 60 Hz, so it’s not yet flickering but let’s say „pulsating“ and due to this headache inducing. Earlier TVs had 100Hz, 200 Hz or even more Hz for a smooth picture. I can’t believe this is Sony’s best picture, what a bummer. No reviewer seems to criticise this...

Why no lights on these Sony tv controller. I hate that shit that I have to turn on my lights to see the fucking functions on the buttons. Such an expensive tv .....lights on the remote should be at least considered.

I got this tv about a month ago the 55 inch version and that speaker it’s terrible compared to my center speaker on my home cinema.. sounded like everything was being played in to a tin can... but apart from that the tv is pretty awesome

3 deal breakers with this TV: 1) The sound is OK for casual listening but no way good for watching movies. 2) You can actually SEE the vibration, which blurs the image finest details especially in 4K material . 3) Light output is only about 650 nits. Oh... and price of course is the result of LG's profit on top of Sony's profit on the panel.

did you calibrate the tv as a center channel with the reciever? it will cross the bass over to the sub and equal the volume levels.

I'm concerned (and surprised you didn't mention it) about the longevity of the screen when you vibrate it long term at audio frequencies, peaks and resonances and all. And it pretty much has to have at least two frequencies it resonates at in the 20-20 kHz range. They'd need notch filters to keep it from sounding 'peaky'.. I'd like to see the audio response graph.

If a TV has the ability to connect to the internet (or many other devices in the IoT range these days especially if they require a phone app to use) I want no part of it and I hate that there is no option not to have those features so it leaves people like me looking for old, used devices instead because people like me are not being catered to at all in the current market and have to miss out on some of this awesome tech because we value our privacy (and not making us easy to hack because IoT security is a joke) more then just having cool stuff. Without the IoT nature of the TV you had me sold but seeing as how ALL 4K TVs are "Smart" TVs I guess I should have seen that coming. I really miss the days when a TV was just a box you plugged stuff in to and you just had to choose what input you wanted to use.
