I know the video is outdated, but I still enjoyed it. Great work!
Personally, I think voxels will make a big comeback. It might take another decade, but they could be the best way to render. Voxels (when small enough, and in currently impossible quantities) quantities) + fluid dynamics + ray traced light and shadow could make for game visuals that are indistinguishable from reality or photography/videography of reality.
Of course all the perfect rendering doesn't mean shit if the game play isn't good, and the story sucks.
I also personally tone down detail settings on games that require quick reflexes. I'd rather have a rock solid 60fps in a shooter than all the detail and hiccups/stutters. For RPGs, point and click games, etc. I'll take the detail over framerate. I'd probably be more into consoles if they had the adjustments PC games have. I hope they realize that the current gen and next gen of consoles are just un-upgradable PCs at this point.

              Very erratic aesthetic quality.

It certainly isn't the case that with time we get better graphics technology and therefore better looking games.

Graphics are important because they actually are part of the experience! That said paired with good or amazing gameplay is what makes a classic game! And a good story helps.

For me Game play is 80% of the fun. i would rather take a nerfed graphics over nerfed game play. i'm so tired of the same game being made over and over. or clones of games with less content then the game they are cloning.
Some game sacrifice game play over beautiful graphics. and it's a shame that they most of thee time can't do both. it would just take to long.
Just look at games coming out from AAA firms today. most of it is junk.
Take The division, they show a trailer long before release showing, a huge map, 3 dark zones, great GUI, and awesome looking graphics. then it comes out with 1/3 of the map, 1 dark zone changed GUI to the worse, and nerfed graphics to match what console would get.
Call of duty a new game each second year that's almost the same and the one before.
                              EA football copy after copy.
I buy way more indie games then AAA since most of those try something new. it's more interesting to sit down and try something you never tried before.

MMORPGS are to easy today. they are now made for people that has like 1 hour a day of play time. since it's those people they earn most on.

Also because of Graphics, sponsors and the developer games comes out half finished. and this is from AAA companies. Sure indie does this too. but AAA firms should have enogh money to finish their game before releasing it. it's a shame.

Does anyone know the name of the game where it was a 3rd person top view multiplayer game where you could pick your characters before you started and it was a medieval game and there was "Warlock" as one of the characters you could pick. I think Warrior was another name. It was completely 2D and you would navigate through a dungeon of some sort. Killing hordes of enemies. And there was a voice in the game that would say certain things depending on what was going on in the game. I remember it sounding almost exactly to Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. Ive been trying to remember the name of this game for months. I was born in 1989 so it would be around that date or maybe a little before, but i remember i loved playing it with my family when i was very little. I was thinking it was on the SEGA Genesis but i couldn't find it on that. If anyone has any idea please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it <3 Thank you.

The guy saying Wind Waker sold less than Ocarina because of the cartoon graphics... No, dude. The N64 had 10 million units mora than the GC. Wind Waker sold around 4 million and Ocarina around 7 million. So Wind Waker sales were on par with Ocarina if you consider the installed base of the GC. On top of that, Zelda Ocarina was the first we saw Zelda in 3D and it was the first we would be seeing a full complex RPG style 3D world with cities, NPCs, dungeons, fields, etc. So, Ocarina sold more... but for many other reasons and not because of graphics.
