Is this a joke question from a comedian? Great player no doubt. But greatest ever? If we want to say greatest with the most league help. Or greatest player at bouncing around to a new team every 4 years to form an instant all star team. Or greatest player to get away with a push foul every time he drives to the basket or needs to clear space to get his shot off.

@Marco Citizen If it takes him joining another 3 teams to do it no. Of course when you bounce around the league every 4 years to form an instant all star team you'll create championships and great numbers. Try playing for 1 team for 20 years and putting up the number of rings and championships Kobe has done despite the league favoring Lebron CP3 veto tampering. No comparison. Great is doing more with less or less help. One had the league against them and one had the league for them. Who would you say had less help?

First Things First: Cris Carter and Nick Wright Well here’s the thing, Lebron has a 40-44” vertical and a 4.6 forty(not 4.4 Jim). MJ was recorded with a 46” vertical b4 he came into the league. In 1987, he was recorded at 48”. MJ ran a 4.6 forty when he first came to UNC, and then ran a 4.3 the next fall. MJ is easily the better scorer no need to explain, Lebron is the more versatile defender but MJ is better at locking down dudes. MJ is actually the better rebounder(2” shorter and 35lbs lighter but still averages less than one rebound per game less than Lebron in a vastly more physical era), he’s not as good of a passer but he averaged 6.3 APG for his years with the bulls, in 1989 there was an 11 game stretch where he had 10 triple doubles and averaged 34 PPG, 13 RPG, and guess what, 11 APG. His career high is APG is 8, not that much less than Lebron. So yea, MJ’s the goat.

Theres an interview on youtube where Wilt says the modern game is so soft he would've averaged 70 a game and that modern superstars were all overrated. He was talking about the 90s and Michael Jordan. Every generation is going to think the guys they saw growing up or played against were the best and will scoff at the next generation. That's even more amplified now given how much media there is. Thats where Jim is right at the start, its just opinion. Unless the players being compared are of the same era, its basically a stupid conversation to have.

Look at the supporting cast Kobe had when they couldn’t get out of the first round. It was a bunch bench warmers and Lamar Odom. It’s surprising that he even got to the playoffs in a very tough western conference. LeBron is a great player but he always had a supporting cast. It’s a shame that Kobe doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He was the best player in the league from 2003-2009 without a doubt. Nick Wright doesn’t watch sports he just reads the stats at the end of the game. The majority of players that played against both always say that Kobe was the better of the two because of the intensity. In the long wrong LBJ is the better player but for a period in time Kobe was the better of the two.

True players view differently and here why they are guarding that player. Kobe was a Assassin and it will be hard for them to lock him up but Lebron James has the numbers dont forget he beat the 73-9 team in 2016. Cavs is the first team into the finals to cameback from 3-1 lead and not just that he lead both teams in every statistical category and nobody has ever done that except Lebron. If Wilt only seen Lebron played he will appreciate Lebron more than Michael. That is called basketball genius. Imagine a karl malone who can run a Point better than Stockton that is Lebron James.

Saying that Kobe Bryant was the best player in the NBA for only one season is laughable. Saying Kobe Bryant doesn't belong in the GOAT conversation is laughable. He's the closest we've seen to Michael Jordan. I was born in 1998 so I didn't get to watch Michael Jordan play when he was in his prime. I got to watch Kobe Bryant play in his prime. He is the greatest player I've ever seen. If I had a team & I couldn't pick MJ to lead my team, Kobe is the first guy I'd take. He was relentless, 82 games a season, 40 minutes a night, both sides of the court. He was an assassin. Kobe Bryant in his prime was the best player in basketball for 10-11 years. He won one MVP award, but he should have won 3 straight MVPs. In 2006, Kobe should have won the MVP over Steve Nash. And it's no disrespect to Steve Nash. I thought he deserved the MVP that Dirk Nowitzki won in the 2006-2007 season. Kobe Bryant averaged 32 ppg, 6 assists, & 6 rebounds per game from 2006 to 2008. He averaged 35 ppg in 2006. Nick always looks to the numbers. I go by eye test. Kobe was a better offensive player & defensive player than LeBron James. Kobe was All-Defensive First Team 12. LeBron was All-Defensive First Team 5 times. Kobe led the league in scoring twice. LeBron led the league in scoring once. And one more thing. Kobe had the mamba mentality when he entered the league. LeBron had to develop that killer mentality for a decade.
